President Trump Nominates New NLRB General Counsel

On March 25, 2025, President Trump nominated attorney Crystal S. Carey to be the next General Counsel to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB or Board). Ms. Carey is a management-side labor lawyer. She previously worked at the NLRB as an attorney for over 8 years, serving as a Field Attorney, Appeals Attorney, and as Senior Counsel to a Board Member.

Ms. Carey holds a Master’s degree in applied sociology. She received her Juris Doctor from the Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law, in 2009.

Several unions are vigorously opposing Ms. Carey’s appointment, predictably labeling her a “union buster.” If she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, employers can expect Ms. Carey to restore balance to the General Counsel’s Office, which, as you know, orchestrated significant changes in labor law to the detriment of employers during the Biden Administration.

As always, we will keep you posted on developments.
