NLRB Nomination Update

Volume 17, Issue 1
February 19, 2018

As you know, President Trump has had the opportunity to nominate several new Board Members to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB or Board). These successful nominations have brought about a major shift in the Board’s decisions. In December 2017, Board Member Philip A. Miscimarra’s term expired, and President Trump has nominated John Ring to fill the vacancy.

Mr. Ring is a management-side labor and employment attorney practicing in Washington, D.C. He is a 1985 graduate of the Catholic University of America and a 1989 graduate of the Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.

Mr. Ring’s appointment would solidify a Republican majority on the Board. If his nomination is approved, employers should expect to see the Board continue to take a more balanced and common sense approach to labor relations.
