March 24, 2020
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it will defer the physical presence requirements associated with employer’s obligations to complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) for employers and workplaces that are operating remotely due to COVID-19. This deferral is available until May 18, 2020 or within 3 business days after the termination of the national emergency, whichever is earlier.
For details concerning who can use this deferral and the procedures for doing so, review the DHS’ press release. If you have questions, please contact a KZA attorney for assistance.
