Reminder – Nevada Minimum Wage Increases July 1, 2021

Volume: 20 | Issue: 37
June 3, 2021

As a reminder, Nevada’s minimum wage increases on July 1, 2021 to $8.75 an hour for the lower tier (employees to whom qualifying health benefits have been offered/made available) and $9.75 an hour for the higher tier (employees to whom qualifying health benefits have not been offered/made available).

As a result, overtime will be owed to an employee making less than $13.125 per hour (if the employee is offered qualified health benefits) or $14.625 per hour (if the employee is not offered qualified health benefits) if that employee works more than 8 hours in any workday or 40 hours in any work week.

The Nevada Labor Commissioner’s annual minimum wage bulletin details the minimum wage increases scheduled for 2022, 2023 and 2024. Additionally, the Nevada Legislature has passed Assembly Joint Resolution 10 that proposes to amend the Nevada Constitution to remove the two-tiered minimum wage system and establish a state-wide minimum wage of $12.00 an hour as of July 1, 2024; this measure will not become effective, however, unless it is approved by a majority of voters during the 2022 general election.
