DOL Issues New FMLA Employer Guide And Poster

Volume 15, Issue 7
May 10, 2016

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued an Employer's Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that is "designed to provide essential information about the FMLA, including information about employers' obligations under the law and the options available to employers in administering leave under the FMLA." The Guide is designed to be an easy-to-read visual roadmap of the FMLA process.

Employers can download the Guide now and may order print copies in mid-June. The DOL's Wage and Hour Division will also hold informational webinars on the Employer's Guide "in the near future." Employers are directed to check the DOL's website for more information on upcoming webinars.

The DOL has also issued an updated version of the FMLA poster employers are required to post in "a conspicuous place where employees and applicants for employment can see it." For the immediate future, employers may continue to use the February 2013 version of the FMLA poster. We suggest updating your poster within a reasonable time - e.g., within the next three (3) months.
